The HOMETOWN HEROES are a three piece band (also available as a 4,5 or 6 piece band) that spend their summers playing up and down the outdoor bars/ restaurants of the Nautical Mile in Freeport, Huntington, New Hyde Park and all over Long Island.. They are armed with a diverse arsenal of cover songs and playing them with masterful musicianship.
Singer, guitarist Steve Ronsen and bassist, backup vocalist Kevin Hawkins have a long history prior to HOMETOWN HEROES. They have been writing and playing together for many years, penning all the songs for the multi – award winning band Quickdraw and a USA Networks “ Nashville Star” finalist with whom they have also been touring. Ronsen and Hawkins also produce and engineer in their own studio. There is a simpatico to their writing and playing that some attribute to the fact that they were born on exactly the same day! Most recently Kevin and Steve were nominated for Best Independent Country Song of the Year 2004 by the internet music group Just Plain Folks for their song ”Say Goodbye; I’m Gone”.
After leading a pop/ rock band with Tony Award winning singer Idina Menzel (Broadway shows “Wicked” & “Rent”), the boys founded the band Quickdraw collecting numerous awards including:
Winner- Music Excellence Award for Outstanding Americana/ Country Act- Musician Exchange Magazine.
Winner - Good Times Magazine Music Festival Competition
Winner - Best Country Act-The Voice Readers Poll
Winner - Denim and Diamonds Playoff Talent Showcase
Winner – Best Country Act- LI Music Awards
Nominated for a PBS Award for writing and producing WLIW spot
Featured on ABC’s Good Morning America in a live performance
Great tunes and a sack full of awards aren’t all these boys bring to the table they are also seasoned professionals being no strangers to big stages, they have opened for Charlie Daniels Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, Delbert McClinton, Kentucky Headhunters, Asleep at the Wheel, Chris Cagle, Gary Allen, Dierks Bentley, Kathy Mattea, Steve Wariner, Brian White, Jessica Andrews, Suzy Boggus, The Kinleys, Stephanie Bentley, Victoria Shaw to name a few, as well as performing Songwriter showcases with Beth Neilsen Chapman, Hugh Prestwood, Steve Sesskin and Richard Bach.
